Remembering Jordan

Jordan Louis Falco, born May 8, 2003, died suddenly and tragically on April 29th, 2020 in Haworth, New Jersey. He was a junior at Northern Valley Regional High School in Demarest, where he played the sousaphone for the marching band, the tuba for the wind symphony, and trombone for the jazz band and pep band, among many other school activities. He also worked for the Demarest school district’s after-care program where he supervised and mentored younger students. Jordan was known for his wry sense of humor, his pun T-shirts, his oversized hair, his infectious smile, his kindness, and his willingness to help those in need. One Northern Valley Student commented; “I don’t know what was bigger, his heart or his hair.”

Jordan suffered from severe clinical depression which contributed to his death. He is survived by his mother, father, older brother, two grandmothers, grandfather, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Read more

Advocating to Remember Jordan at Graduation
The Falco Family felt strongly that Jordan should be remembered and included as a member of his 2021 graduating class. They were met with resistance to their requests for his name to be read among his classmates and for an empty chair to be placed for him as a remembrance. Through their persistence and advocacy, and with the support of Jordan’s classmates and the community, he will be remembered at graduation in accordance with his family’s wishes. Learn more about their efforts here:

Celebration of Life/Bench Dedication On Sunday, May 23rd, 2021 The Falcos welcomed family, friends, and community members to a Celebration of Life and Dedication of a Swinging Bench in Jordan's memory at the Duck Pond in Demarest, NJ where they shared memories and ice cream.

Love for Jordan

The Falco Family thrives on love and laughter, and Jordan kept us all laughing. After receiving an award for perfect attendance in 2018, he commented, “You know, they don’t give this to you for just showing up.”

These are a few of our favorite photos. We invite you to share your Jordan photos and stories. Please email to: info@jordanfalco.com

Promoting Mental Health Awareness & Action

Teen mental health challenges, already growing, were amplified and accelerated by the pandemic. We believe it’s imperative to share our story in the hope we can shine a light on the importance of addressing teen mental health and removing the stigma from seeking help. Since his passing, Jordan’s story was featured in an article on nj.com (A Life Interrupted). We wrote an editorial for The Bergen Record (Remember Jordan Falco) calling attention to the need for vigilance and action. In March 2021, we reached a national audience with an appearance on Fox’s “The Story with Martha MacCallum.” (Listen to the podcast here, interview begins at 19 min)
